There’s a guy in my hometown who goes to the nearest WaWa(gas station/convenience store) on select mornings and will buy about 25 coffees for whoever wants them and the employees keep a tally of it. I’d really love to do the same one day when I have some extra cash.

THIS MAN HAS ALS, AND HIS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH. THEN IT’LL MAKE YOU CRY

The video begins humorously as Anthony Carbajal, a photographer, dresses up in a neon bikini top and soaps up a car before being doused with ice water.

So watch the full video here and laugh out loud at the first half and then get ready to tear up in the second half.

There are a lot of diseases that don’t get the support they need because there aren’t a huge number of people who experience them, so it’s difficult to raise awareness, difficult to find investors, basically people don’t have the emotional connection they do with something that a huge number of people deal with and the pharmaceuticals to treat them aren’t as profitable. Like, a friend of mine was at an MS fundraiser and the grim joke used to try to lighten people’s spirits for feeling like they weren’t raising as much money as they wanted was “Let’s face it guys, we aren’t cancer”

The ice bucket challenge has made people donate something like ten times as much to ALS this year than previous years. I know people are concerned about wasting water, but you’ll do a lot more good on that front if you take a stand against bottled water and soft drinks, particularly from companies like Nestle, than getting mad at people trying to raise awareness for an illness that let’s be honest not a lot of people were very familiar with before this. Just be responsible, be aware, and try not to take your frustration out on the wrong people.

Anonymous asked: What causes the price to be so expensive? (not in a bad way im just curious)

It’s a fair question (when asked nicely), and it’s one that artists get a lot (though often asked not so nicely).

Pricing your art can be one of the more stressful parts of the job, especially when that art is your sole or main income.  There are a few main factors to consider:

First, materials.  Pretty basic logic there. How much did you spend to assemble the materials necessary?

Second, time. You basically have to work out what would be a good hourly wage for your work.  If you spend a bajillion hours on something, that has to be taken into account when you price it.

Third, knowledge/experience/expertise. This is the weird nebulous part of pricing.  You have to consider all the hours of practice, refinement, failures, and development that goes into each piece and your style and skill overall.  Magweno put it well in a response to someone on DA:

image

Original art is expensive.  I actually had the Gubbin bases cast in resin because it means I can charge $125 for them instead of the higher price I would need to charge if I’d made each one from scratch without that base.  I had initially been hoping to sell each for a bit less, but I got too wrapped up in doing extra details on the paint job, so the hours I invested started to lengthen a bit.

Anyway, I hope that helps!

Magweno hit it out of the park with that DA response!

This is indeed something people forget, you are not just paying an artist for the material or per hour wage for a piece, you are also paying for all the expertise and time they spent to get to that skill level point.

This is also why it is okay and expected for an artist to charge a little more over time as their product is refined and improved - so to add to people asking artists about pricing, also don’t ask an artist "You charged ____ / less for this same thing 2 years ago.  Why is it so much more now?" Because that too is insulting, and like saying all your hours spent to refine are also worth nothing.

iris-has-a-hippie-blog asked: Momma, did you know about the Cruelty Cutter app? It's a really simple app you can get on an iphone (not sure about other smartphones) that let's you scan a barcode and tells you, based on its HUGE database, whether it's animal tested or not.

Anonymous asked: I'd think I'm kind of like an opposite of demisexual? I would probably do sexual things with even a friend or somebody I didn't have strong mental connections with. Is that weird?

It’s okay to be a Sexual Velociraptor, but be sure to ask permission before you get your frisky on; ask politely and then Do It. WRAP YOUR HOMEWARD BONE. Your regular friends will react by chomping your butt with little compunction.

This is the best response I’ve ever seen from fairy shark mother. Ever.

reblogging here because i can see this being relevant to anyone who’s ever tried to get out of an abusive relationship

Reblogging because that last comment made me reread the whole thing in a new light and realize this could be vital information. So, putting it out there for everyone, and hoping no one ever really needs it.
